The Camogie Blitz by Niamh and Ciara
On the 17th of October, the Caragh u11 camogie team went to the Raheens pitch to play the league blitz.
It was a nice day to play camogie as the sun was out and the pitch was dry. We had to play three teams to get into the final. We left the school at 11:50 and were there by 12. We had a quick warm up and the other teams started to arrive. Before our first game it was decided that our captain would be Rachel R.
Our first match was against the Rathmore 1 team. It took us a while to settle in but after our first goal scored by Sinead H we were determined to score again. By full time the score was 4-0 and were helped along by scorers Anna O and Leah F.
Our second match was against Rathmore 2 and they were harder to beat than Rathmore 1, after their first goal it was clear that we had to raise our standards. At the end of that match we had fortunately scored 3 goals by Niamh R and Sally K.
Our last match to get to the final was against Sallins. We had made a few changes to the positions and by half time we were winning by 2 goals that were scored by Leah F.
It was time for the final and we met Rathmore 2 again. We went onto the pitch with our heads held high and were ready for whatever they would throw at us. We were all in the same positions that we had started off in the 1st and 2nd match.
At half time we were up by 1 goal which was scored by Anna O. We went into the second half knowing that we were narrowly winning and that things could turn around at any moment. But it gave us an extra boost of confidence when we scored our first point by Grace K. In the last 4 minutes we got another point by Anna O, but with one minute to go we got our last goal scored by Sally K.
After the whistle blew we were overjoyed with excitement that we won by 2-2 to nothing. We got the trophy and then Rachel R made a speech. We then went back to our school with the good news that we had won the cup.
It was a great day and thank you to Ms Losty and Ms Greville for coaching us every Thursday, to all the girls who come to training and to all the parents who come all our matches and show their support!
