BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2014 by Aaron C.

On Friday 10th January, our 6th Class went to the RDS to visit the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition. We left the school at around 10: 30am and arrived at the RDS just before 12 noon. First, we were escorted to the arena to see W5 Big and Small Science Show which was very interesting show. It was an interactive show about protons and neutrons!

Then, we went to see the World of Robots show which was brilliant as you can see from the photos below. The World of Robots is the largest open robot competition and robot display in Ireland. We saw educational robotics demos and displays of exact and working replicas of famous robots such as R2-D2, the Daleks and even a Creeper from Minecraft.

After the show the pupils were allowed to visit the various projects. The selection was huge as there were over 550 projects on display. My favourite project was a communication system for manager and players using mouth guards. The project was from a school in County Mayo.

There was an area where a large number of companies such as Google, Intel, Analog Devices had demonstrations and displays. RTE also had a live studio set up in the area. I got the opportunity to present a weather forecast to camera.

intelAaron RTEThe overall winner was Paul Clarke from St. Pauls College, Raheny Co. Dublin. A great day was had by all!
